Salt systems have been questioned in recent years by the medical community due to their use of high amounts of salt in softening water. Salt softeners literally bathe your water supply in a tank of sodium charged plastic beads. The plastic beads absorb the hard water minerals and exchange an equal amount of sodium into the water supply. This is no small amount. In a normal area of 20 grains of hardness, 150 milligrams of sodium are released in each quart of water. That is a lot of salt entering your body on a daily basis.
