Raw Food Diet07-23-2010A raw food diet produces many benefits to the body and health. A raw food diet consists of only eating raw or living foods. Raw and living foods are foods that contain enzymes which assist in the digestion of food. These enzymes are killed off by cooking or heating food over 116 degrees. Raw and living foods have more important nutrients than foods that are cooked. The point of having these enzymes is to help the body get the maximum value of the food you eat. ...
Dehydration and Alkaline Water06-14-2010About 70% of the body is made of water. So it stands to reason that water is one of the most important things for the continuation of life. This is why dehydration is so dangerous. Most people think dehydration is an old worry and that everyone gets enough water into their systems, but that’s not true. ...
Heatstroke - How Dehydration can effect heatstroke06-14-2010Heat stroke, also known as hyperthermia or sunstroke, happens when the body has more heat than it can get rid of. This causes the body temperature to increase up to 104 degrees or higher. When the body gets to temperatures this high, it stops functioning properly. Usually, there are precursors to heat stroke. For example, heat exhaustion or heat cramps normally signify a serious risk of eventual hyperthermia. Heat stroke is basically heat exhaustion or heat cramps worsening. Other heat stroke symptoms include a high body temperature, an accelerated heartbeat, muscle cramps, fatigue, an inability to sweat, hyperventilating, weakness and neurological complications. In some cases, heat stroke can be bad enough to cause confusion, seizures and comas. When a person has heat stroke, their body essentially cooks itself from the inside out. You can imagine the difference in body functions between the normal 98.6 degrees and 104 degrees. That’s like stepping from a hot day in the sun into a Jacuzzi. ...
Water Retention06-15-2010Water retention is a problem faced by many people, especially women. It’s interesting because natural water retention is most often caused by not drinking enough water. While there are some cases where water retention signifies more serious health problems, generally the reasons behind water retention are either not drinking enough water or having a diet too high in sodium. ...
Important Water Facts06-15-2010Water is one of the most interesting compounds in the world. It’s also the most prevalent, covering 70-75% of the entire earth. You can imagine how much that is just by comparing the massive amount of land on earth. Water accounts for 3 times that! Even more perplexing, is that the water we have on earth now is the same water that was around millions of years ago. This is because the earth is a closed system, similar to a terrarium meaning it rarely loses or gains extra matter. When you see the ocean, you’re seeing the same water as the dinosaurs did. In the entire world, there is 326 million cubic miles of water. Surprisingly, humans can only use about 3/10ths of a percent, or .003% of it. ...
Why to use a Shower Filter?06-15-2010Chlorine is a highly corrosive chemical that is often found in water used to shower. The EPA has stated that every household in the United States has elevated levels of chloroform in the air. This is because of the chlorine released from showering water. The problem with chlorine is that it enters the body through dermal absorption (through the skin) and inhalation more so than through consumption. That’s why the water in showering is more dangerous than drinking water. The skin pores widen while showering, allowing easy access to the chlorine. At the same time, the steam created by the shower is full of highly concentrated chemicals, causing those chemicals to be inhaled. This is because chemicals vaporize at a faster rate than water. Showers release more contaminants into the air than any other source in a home. There have even been suspicions of chlorine as a cause of breast cancer. ...
Bottled Water vs. Alkaline Water: How Much Are You Paying?06-16-2010When you go to the store and see a flat of bottled water for around 2 dollars, you think, wow, what a great deal! When you go to the store and see a filter for anywhere between 50 and 600 dollars, you think, no way am I buying that! In a day, 600 dollars is a lot compared to 2 dollars, but what about over 10 years, 20 years or even 40 years? How much money would you be willing to spend for the convenience of a bottle of water? How much would you be willing to risk your health to continue drinking bottled water? The cost of water might not seem like much when you look at it on a daily basis, but what about the cost to your health? What about the dent in your wallet paying for bottled water makes over time? It’s not only cheaper to use alkaline water over bottled water, but it’s also healthier for you. ...
Alkaline Diet06-17-2010An alkaline diet, also called an acid alkaline diet, consists of increasing the consumption of fresh fruit, vegetables, roots and tubers, nuts, and legumes. Alkaline diets are used to combat the body’s acidity caused by today’s typical diet of acid producing foods and drinks like soda, meat, dairy, salt and grains. ...
Natural Detox Cleansing06-17-2010Everyday, we as humans are subjected to constant contact with poisonous chemicals and toxins. These come from everywhere, whether it is from the food you eat, the water you drink, the breath of air you inhale, or the things you touch. In the commercially driven world we live in today, scientists estimate that there are 80,000 chemicals present. While many chemicals have unknown side effects, there are some that are not only dangerous but more prevalent in our bodies than one may think. For example, mercury is found in dental amalgams. ...
